Safety & rules

What we check at the door, and why

Age verification, what counts as ID, and the orders we turn down. The rules are not negotiable and the rider does not get to make exceptions.

Yes, we check. If you cannot show that you are of legal drinking age, the order goes back on the bike. The rider does not have discretion on this and is not being difficult — it is the one rule with no version of “just this once”.

What counts

Any government-issued photo ID with a date of birth on it:

  • Citizenship certificate
  • Driving licence
  • Passport
  • National ID card

A photo on your phone of any of those is fine. A photo of somebody else’s is not, and it is more obvious than people expect.

What happens at the door

The rider will ask, look, and hand the bag over. It takes about five seconds and there is no reason for it to be awkward. If you look comfortably past the age and nobody asks, that is a judgement call, not a policy — the rider will ask whenever there is any doubt at all, including when it seems obvious to you that there should not be.

The orders we turn down

Anyone visibly intoxicated. This is not a moral judgement and it is not about the money. Continuing to serve someone who is already in a bad way is how a night becomes an emergency, and we would rather lose the order.

Anyone who cannot produce ID. See above.

An order somebody else is collecting for a person we have not seen. If a group is ordering, whoever meets the rider is who gets checked.

Anywhere that feels wrong to the rider. They work alone, late, in the dark. If they decide not to complete a delivery, that decision stands and it is not something to argue about over the phone.

If your order is refused

You are not charged. Nothing was paid up front, so there is nothing to refund. The rider leaves, and that is the end of it.

Why we are direct about this

A delivery service that is vague about age checks is advertising itself to exactly the customers it must not have. Saying it plainly on the website filters most of that out before a rider is ever put in the position of having to say no at a gate at one in the morning.

If any of this has gone wrong on an order, message us. It gets looked at.

Getting home afterwards is a separate question and worth reading: getting home safely.
